SASC Leaders See FBI Findings on Hegseth Before Tomorrow’s Hearing

January 13, 2025

The FBI briefed Sens. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) and Jack Reed (D-R.I.), the chair and ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee on the agency’s findings in its background check of veteran and former Fox News host Pete Hegseth, The New York Times reported this weekend.

The findings have not been shared with other members of the committee who will question him Tuesday to consider his nomination to become defense secretary.

Hegseth will likely have to answer for allegations of high alcohol use and sexual harassment, as well as comments questioning whether Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Gen. CQ Brown is qualified for his job and saying that women should not serve in combat roles.

A key player in Tuesday’s hearing will be committee member Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), a former Army National Guard commander and sexual assault survivor.

How to Watch Hegseth’s Hearing

Hegseth’s confirmation hearing will take place Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. Eastern time. The committee will livestream the session, which may also be carried live on cable news channel.
