Collins Vows to Serve Veterans Over Bureaucracy; More Jobs Cut Monday

February 25, 2025

Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins said his priorities will be to improve benefits delivery, expand medical care and focus on people over the agency’s bureaucracy, Military Times reported.

“It is not about the VA as an organization. It is about the veterans that we serve,” Collins told the Disabled Veterans of America over the weekend. “If we are not serving the veteran, then the VA is not in the position it should be.”

Collins also said he wants to make it easier for veterans to get care at VA centers or through private providers.

“The days of making choices limited for veterans on where they can get their care are over,” he said.

Collins acknowledged the 1,000 VA probationary employees the administration laid off and that there may be more job cuts. One day later, on Monday, VA fired 1,400 more workers, The Hill reported. VA said they were “non-mission critical” employees.
