House Passes CR, Sends to Senate

March 12, 2025

The House narrowly passed a continuing resolution Tuesday to avoid a government shutdown Friday night. The bill would keep fiscal year 2024 funding through the rest of fiscal year 2025.

It adds $6 billion to defense spending.

The spending bill “includes our military and defense needs, and indeed, we have accomplished this while also fully funding the Department of Defense, including the largest pay raise for junior enlisted personnel in over 40 years,” House Appropriations Committee Chair Tom Cole (R-Okla.) said in floor remarks.

The CR will need 60 votes in the Senate, including those of several Democrats, many of whom have been critical of the House-passed bill.
