Former Illinois Base Still Requires Funding for Environmental Cleanup
CU-Citizens Access recently reported on the state of the former Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois, a location the Air Force has moved out of completely after $200 million spent on environmental cleanup efforts. The base was home to extensive practice of using firefighting chemicals that contain PFAS. The Air Force has acknowledged that the base still needs $76 million in further cleanup work, but it is unclear when that will take place.
