The Senate will vote today on the six-month stopgap spending bill the House passed earlier this week to avert a government shutdown tonight. It would keep fiscal year 2024 spending through September 30, the end of fiscal year 2025.
Many Democrats wanted a shorter-term continuing resolution or language that reins in Elon Musk’s DOGE cuts. But Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (R-N.Y.) signaled Thursday he will support the bill.
Republicans will need at least seven Democratic votes to pass the plan for President Trump’s signature.
