The Department of Veterans Affairs plans to cut more than 80,000 workers across the country, AP reported Wednesday, citing an internal memo in which VA Chief of Staff Christopher Syrek told senior officials to prepare to “resize and tailor the workforce to the mission and revised structure.”
His goal is to be at VA’s 2019 personnel level of just under 400,000 employees by April.
“This effort will require the entirety of VA staff and organizations to work together in a collaborative fashion, as well as to coordinate actions with DOGE and the Administration as a whole, to achieve the desired results within the allotted time,” he wrote.
