John Cooper Sr., chairman of the Niagara Military Affairs Council, was named a 2024-2025 national Defense Community Champion by the Association of Defense Communities during the recent Defense Communities National Summit. Cooper’s work in the Niagara area was a major reason for Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station’s continued existence after being threatened by BRAC closures.
Brittany Smart from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and Daniel Rhoades, senior advisor at the 21st Century Partnership in Georgia were also named national Champions. ADC and Navy Federal Credit Union also recognized local Defense Community Champions.
The Defense Community Champions program, sponsored by Navy Federal Credit Union, recognizes individuals who make a difference on local installations, in communities and across local governments and industry.
