Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has terminated all Civilian Aides to the Secretary of the Army, according to an email an Army official shared with supporters of the CASA program, which connects community leaders to Army installation commanders.
“Moving forward, the Civilian Aide Program will focus on leveraging civilian expertise in strategic communications, advanced technology, innovation and digital transformation to advise the Army as we build a force capable of dominating the future fight,” Driscoll wrote in an internal message. “We will seek experts in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, robotics, data science and emerging defense technologies.”
An official with the CASA program said its name may change and that it will likely be “much smaller with a shift from community engagement to connecting the Army with fresh perspectives from industry, research institutions and private sector as we help promote the Army in new and creative ways.”
The CASA website now says simply that the “program is being reformed as part of the Army Transformation Initiative. Please check back regularly for updates.”
