HASC Member Bacon Won’t Run for Reelection

June 30, 2025

Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) is expected to announce today that he will not seek re-election in 2026, Politico reported, as did Nebraska news outlets in stories that Bacon reposted on X over the weekend.

Bacon, an Air Force veteran, serves on the House Armed Services Committee and co-chaired the committee’s ad hoc quality of life panel with Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-Pa.). Their recommendations paved the way for a large service member pay raise and other quality of life improvements included in last year’s National Defense Authorization Act.

Bacon represents Omaha, including Offutt Air Force Base. With his support, Greater Omaha was named a Great American Defense Community in 2023. The program is an initiative of ADC and USAA.
