Hundreds of Marines Deploying to Los Angeles

June 10, 2025

Between 500 and 700 Marines from the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, California are being deployed to Los Angeles, CNN and other outlets reported Monday. They will join about 2,000 National Guard members deployed by President Trump to counter anti-ICE protests in the city.

CNN’s report said it isn’t yet clear what role the Marines will play.

California Sues

California Attorney General Rob Bonta is suing Trump, saying the Guard deployment is an “infringement” on the authority of Gov. Gavin Newsom (D).

“Federalizing the California National Guard is an abuse of the President’s authority under the law — and not one we take lightly,” Bonta said, according to NBC News. “We’re asking a court to put a stop to the unlawful, unprecedented order.”
