The Honolulu Board of Water Supply announced a $1.2 billion lawsuit against the Navy for the 2021 Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility jet leaks that contaminated the water supply and left some families sick and temporarily displaced.
The suit accuses the Navy of “negligence, nuisance and trespass resulting in damages where the government of the United States of America, if a private party, would be liable to the BWS,” the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported.
A Navy-led task force is working to shut down the storage facility.
“The Navy does not comment on ongoing litigation,” a Navy spokesperson told the outlet.
