Eielson Chosen for First Air Force Microreactor
Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska has been selected as the home of the Air Force’s first nuclear microreactor, AP reported. The reactor will begin use in 2027 as a trial for the feasibility of the technology for other bases.
“This technology has the potential to provide true energy assurance, and the existing energy infrastructure and compatible climate at Eielson make for the perfect location to validate its feasibility,” Mark Correll, deputy assistant Air Force secretary for environment, safety and infrastructure, said.
Wisconsin Base Battles Invasive Plants with Community Support
Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, has been in a years-long battle against a wide variety of invasive plants on the land. As a part of invasive species awareness week, Fort McCoy hosted community members and educated them on the dangers of invasive species and how they could be combated, according to a DVIDS story.
