Arizona Army Base Teaches Data Literacy
Yuma Proving Ground, Arizona, has begun a monthly data literacy class for those stationed at the base. The two-day course is designed to acquaint students with the framework of data science and prepare them to understand all types of data, from AI-powered tracking systems to business data. The program will continue to run monthly depending on enrollment, according to a DVIDS story.
Yuma, Arizona is one of three regions named Great American Defense Communities in 2025, through an ADC and USAA initiative.
Washington State Partners with Hire Heroes USA to Help Vets Find Jobs
The Washington Employment Security Department has partnered with national nonprofit organization Hire Heroes USA to help connect veterans with employment resources, KOMO News reported.
“We’re not trying to force fit them into something that’s not where their skills are going to be used,” Hire Heroes USA CEO Ross Dickman said. “We’re helping to kind of equip them to illuminate that path and guide them along the way, but when they make that step and they secure that opportunity, it’s like a whole new person at the end of that experience.”
Dickman spoke with On Base in March about how communities can help veterans find employment during uncertain times.
