Navy in New Phase of Red Hill Shutdown The Navy is nearing a new phase of shutting down the Red Hill Bulk Storage Facility in Honolulu, the Star-Advertiser reported. Navy officials said that later this year they will begin removing 10 miles of fuel transmission pipes. “I want to let the community know… we are not walking away,” Rear Adm. Stephen Barnett, who commands Navy Region Hawaii and heads the Navy Closure Task Force—Red Hill, told lawmakers Monday. The military announced in 2022 it would close the facility after fuel leaked into the local water supply.
