Two hundred Marines from Marine Corps Air Station New River, North Carolina are heading to Florida as DOD continues supporting Department of Homeland Security immigration missions, as Military Times reported.
“Their roles will focus on administrative and logistical tasks, and they are specifically prohibited from direct contact with individuals in ICE custody or involvement in any aspect of the custody chain,” NORTHCOM announced.
NORTHCOM had not confirmed to Military Times Monday where the troops are going in Florida and whether they will be supporting operations at the new detention facility in the Everglades that law enforcement officials refer to as “Alligator Alcatraz.” About 70 Florida National Guard members have been deployed to the facility, Military.com reported.
Other troops are deploying to Texas and Louisiana.
