Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) has placed a hold on the confirmation of Adm. Daryl Caudle, who seemed otherwise on a fast track to become chief of naval operations, Politico reported.
Sullivan wants to put pressure on the Navy to reopen Adak Naval Air Station off the coast of Alaska. It was closed after the Cold War.
The Navy has been without a Senate-confirmed chief since Adm. Lisa Franchetti was fired in February.
