Forum Brings Together Community, Defense Leaders in Alaska

September 10, 2025

The University of Alaska Fairbanks recently hosted its annual Alaska Defense Forum alongside the Fairbanks Economic Development Corporation and ADC, bringing together defense leaders across the state to discuss issues facing the crucially important military center.

The university’s senior adviser for defense, community and research, Brittany Smart, played a crucial role in bringing the event together.

“We don’t just improve quality of life when we solve local challenges such as workforce gaps, aging infrastructure or child care shortages,” Smart said in a press release. “We strengthen installation resilience and enable force readiness to make Alaska a place where missions succeed.”

Smart is a 2025 Defense Community Champion, an initiative of ADC and Navy Federal Credit Union.
