The Trump administration may extend the National Guard’s deployment in Washington, D.C. through the end of the year, The Washington Post reported.
Sources told the outlet that DOD wants to ensure anyone rotating into the Joint Task Force-D.C. mission is activated for at least 30 days to ensure full military benefits.
New Orleans Added to List of Possible Guard Deployments
President Trump Wednesday suggested he may send the National Guard into New Orleans, AP reported.
“So we’re going to be going to maybe Louisiana, and you have New Orleans, which has a crime problem. We’ll straighten that out in about two weeks,” Trump told reporters. “It’ll take us two weeks, easier than D.C.”
Trump has also said he will send the Guard to Chicago and Baltimore.
A federal court in California ruled Tuesday that the recent deployment of Guardsmen and Marines into Los Angeles was illegal because the service members were tasked with domestic law enforcement.
