The House this week passed its version of the National Defense Authorization Act.
The bill, which passed by a largely party-line vote of 231-196, authorizes Congress to spend $893 billion on defense in fiscal year 2026, though no appropriations plan has been passed.
Among provisions in the House version bill are:
- A 3.8% pay raise for service members
- An end strength increase of 26,000 service members
- Continued support for Ukraine aid
- Recission of two open-ended war powers authorizations from before the Iraq War
The House did not adopt an amendment limiting the President’s use of National Guard members for domestic law enforcement or one officially renaming DOD the Department of War.
The Senate was still debating its version of the NDAA Thursday evening.
