The House is expected to vote today on a stopgap spending bill that would fund the government at current levels through Nov. 20.
The Senate could consider it and a Democratic alternative on the floor soon after, Axios reported, noting that neither plan is expected to get 60 votes needed for passage.
Both chambers are scheduled for recess next week for Rosh Hashanah, leaving just a couple legislative days before the fiscal year ends Sept. 30. If there’s no spending agreement by then, most of the government would shut down.
“The real votes on whether to shut the government down will be on the 29th and 30th,” a Republican senator told Axios.
Politico reported Thursday that House leaders are considering extending the House recess into the new fiscal year to “jam” Senate Democrats into supporting the GOP-drafted continuing resolution.
