Maryland Hosts Summit on Resources for Vets, Military Families

Maryland’s Department of Veterans and Military Families recently hosted a summit at Joint Base Andrews focused on improving support for service members, veterans and their families, dcmilitary.com reported. The event focused on providing resources and reducing the stigma towards accessing those resources in the military community. The department encouraged forging relationships on and off the base.

“Sometimes our military members are so strong and resilient, they don’t want to ask for help — they don’t want to feel vulnerable,” Col. Jun S. Oh, 316th Wing and installation commander, said. “That’s where we come in, to provide the necessary support so that we can all be vulnerable when we need to be, because we all need help.”

Tensions Continue to Rise Over Washington PFAS

Washington’s Yakima Training Center used PFAS in firefighting drills, but even after the discovery of groundwater contamination, the nearby community is still waiting for a response from the Army, Military.com reported. State officials, including Department of Ecology head Casey Sixkiller, have ramped up pressure on the Army to act, hosting a community meeting where citizens voiced their concerns over the response.
