California Base Introduces First Privatized Barracks

Fort Irwin, California has recently broken ground on the Army’s first privatized barracks for junior unaccompanied service members. Military Times reported that the project is a partnership with The Michaels Organization. The $164 million project is scheduled to be finished in 2028 and will house 545 service members.

EPA Collaborates with Illinois Base to Save Food

The Environmental Protection Agency and Scott Air Force Base, Illinois have collaborated to create the Feed It Onward program to bring visually imperfect produce that would otherwise go to waste to military bases. Belleville News-Democrat reported that the program has brought 40,000 pounds of produce to Scott and is planned to expand to other bases.
