New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) recently announced the start of the new Office of Strategic Defense Investment. The department will be a part of the Economic Development Authority and focus on safeguarding New Jersey’s defense industry and attracting new investors alongside the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, according to a press release.
“New Jersey’s defense sector is a cornerstone of our state’s economy and our nation’s security,” Murphy said.
New Jersey is home to three military installations, which employ more than 70,000 service members, civilians and contractors. Defense represents 1.3% of the state’s GDP, according to the press release.
