Trump Plans Portland Mission

September 29, 2025

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth federalized 200 Oregon National Guard members Sunday for a potential activation supporting ICE and other federal agents, as The Washington Post reported. In a memo to Gov. Tina Kotek, a Democrat, Hegseth cited the same authority the administration used to send Guardsmen and Marines to Los Angeles this summer.

President Trump said the military would be deployed in Portland to stop “domestic terrorists” and will be authorized to use “full force, if necessary.”

The state’s attorney general immediately filed suit to stop any plans to send the military into Portland, saying it is an “overreach,” NOTUS reported.
