It was still unclear Thursday evening why Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has called top military leaders to an in-person meeting next week at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia.
Some in the Pentagon have told The Washington Post and other outlets they are unsure about the nature of the meeting.
But President Trump and Vice President Vance played down the intrigue.
“It’s not particularly unusual that generals who report to the secretary of war and then to the president of the United States are coming to speak with the secretary of war,” Vance said Thursday, referring to Hegseth’s alternative title.
Trump said the generals would tour equipment sites and discuss weapons, according to The Hill.
