The Association of Defense Communities Friday called on Congress to find a solution to end the government shutdown that is affecting national security, service members and military communities across the country.
In a letter to the four most senior congressional leaders, ADC President Tom Ford cited the consensus of more than 500 defense community representatives at ADC’s Installation Innovation Forum.
“Leaders from across the country reported a troubling rise in military families seeking emergency assistance—from local food banks, public school childcare programs, and military support nonprofits to other vital community resources,” Ford wrote. “Communities are doing all they can to support those families, but local efforts cannot replace federal action.
“We urge Congress to act swiftly and reopen the government. Our adversaries are not waiting, and neither can our forces.”
