The Air Force recently began seeking private companies to lease land at five bases for AI data centers. The Air Force put out a call for proposals last Tuesday, hoping to make use of underutilized land.
Air Force deputy assistant secretary for installations Robert Moriarty said that the centers would be used for private companies outside of military projects.
“AI is transforming the modern world, and these data centers are crucial for America to remain at the forefront of innovation,” Moriarty said in a statement to Defense News.
Proposals are requested for 3,100 acres of land, most of which are concentrated at Edwards Air Force Base in California. The deadline for proposals is November 14.
