Concerns Rise About Government Shutdown’s Impact on Service Members

October 2, 2025

With Congress failing to pass a stopgap bill to keep the federal government open, the government has shut down for the first time since 2018. With shutdown comes difficulties for all federal employees, but one of the first groups to feel severe effects will be service members, especially those living on installations, WWLP reported.

Service members are still required to continue their work and will receive their October 1 paycheck but payment after then will be suspended, according to Task and Purpose

Traditionally, Congress has paid back military members for the paychecks missed, but that still leaves a potentially long stretch without pay until the federal government reopens.
