Some Senate Democrats are urging the reversal of a recent Pentagon decision to delay PFAS cleanups at installations across the country.
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) and 27 other senators sent a letter to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth demanding that the cleanups not be delayed to protect service members and the surrounding communities from the dangerous chemicals, Stars and Stripes reported.
“For years, communities contaminated by PFAS from nearby DOD installations in our states have waited for the DOD to take action,” the letter states. “We request that the department reverse its decision, return to the previous timetable released in December 2024, and accelerate efforts to remediate confirmed PFAS contamination.”
