Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is planning new changes to the defense acquisition system. A Nov. 7 speech will be attended by defense industry leaders, informing private companies of new procedures.
The new changes are likely to include the following, Breaking Defense reported:
- Acquisitions to be moved outside of the Pentagon to decrease the wait time for new contracts
- Introduction of “direct report program managers,” who would manage infrastructure projects for the Air Force and Navy, but report directly to the Deputy Defense Secretary instead of to the branch
- More plans for “consolidation and streamlining” promised by Army Secretary Dan Driscoll
The extent of these changes is still unclear.
