DOD Announces $1.2 Billion in Barracks Overhaul

December 3, 2025

The Pentagon organized a Barracks Task Force in October to create a new investment plan for military housing, and last week announced $1.2 billion in funding, Task and Purpose reported.

About $400 million will go toward “immediate work,” with the remaining $800 million being spent on barracks renovation, according to a video released by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Hegseth has also outlined plans to continue to bring in private contractors for faster renovations.

So far, investments have been made in new furnishings for 81 barracks, and the next steps will include inspections of barracks across the country.
