The Air Force plans to conduct no-notice inspections of units to test combat readiness, Air Force Vice Chief Lt. Gen. Scott Pleus announced. The move is to put pressure on commanders to ensure their units are ready for deployment.
“That is not the job of the staff; that is not the job of the headquarters,” Pleus said, according to Air & Space Forces Magazine. “That is 100% in their wheelhouse. If they fail an inspection, that is a commander’s fault.”
The change comes a few weeks after quarterly readiness reviews were updated to be held only once a year. It was not announced how often no-notice reviews will be conducted.
