Pentagon Doubles Innovation Funding

February 26, 2026

The Pentagon will invest in its innovation arm, nearly doubling as part of the $151 billion it is required to spend from the One Big Beautiful Bill, Defense One reported. While many facets of the allocation are classified, what is available reflects the interests of the Pentagon in the coming year.

The largest section of the allocation is dedicated to the Golden Dome defense system, with $24.4 billion going to the continued development of the missile defense system.

Funding for drone development has doubled since last year’s budget, raising up to $2 billion to invest in creating low-cost drones to use in combat. The provisions also dedicate funding to the drone industrial base, as well as coordinating drone programs between branches.
