Anthropic AI Designated Supply Chain Risk by Pentagon

March 4, 2026

The Pentagon declared that Anthropic AI is a supply chain risk after the Trump administration ordered federal agencies to stop using the company’s products, The Hill reported.

“Effective immediately, no contractor, supplier, or partner that does business with the United States military may conduct any commercial activity with Anthropic,” Hegseth said in an X post.

The tension between Anthropic and the Pentagon has been rising due to a disagreement in principles. In a statement, Anthropic expressed concerns about their AI technology being used for mass domestic surveillance and autonomous weapons, which the Pentagon considered vital for national defense.
