Defense Leaders Forge Emergency Response Partnership
The emergency management team at Patrick Space Force Base, Florida, recently met with the local county’s Emergency Operations Center. The meeting worked on developing seamless cooperation between the two groups to prepare for crisis situations, according to a Space Force report.
“Whether we’re responding to a space launch anomaly or preparing for an inbound hurricane, close coordination and collaboration with our local community counterparts is key,” SLD 45 Commander Col. Brian Chatman said.
Coast Guard Turns College Campus into Training Center
The site of the former Birmingham-Southern College is set to be purchased by the Department of Homeland Security to create a new Coast Guard training center, Stars and Stripes reported. The campus was closed in May 2024.
The Coast Guard hopes to begin operations by the end of 2026. The new training capacity was deemed necessary as the Coast Guard exceeded its recruiting goal and plans to add 15,000 new service members in the next two years.
