With DHS funding talks continuing to stall as the department’s shutdown nears its fourth week, Republicans are considering a second reconciliation bill to fund DHS and potentially include a defense supplemental for the Iran war.
House Budget Chair Jodey Arrington (R-Texas) and Senate Budget Chair Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) have discussed proposing a new budget reconciliation package that could pass with simple majorities, which Arrington described as “the only path to a defense supplemental,” Axios reported.
Preesident Trump has said that he will not make a deal with Democrats on DHS funding until Congress passes the SAVE America Act, which seems unlikely to pass.
