The Army has stopped a plan to close more than 20 museums on bases in response to congressional action, Stars and Stripes reported. Last year’s National Defense Authorization Act required the Army to create a new museum system and notify Congress of any closures.
The original plans for closure, announced by the Army in June, would have closed 29 museums due to their upkeep cost and lack of staffing. The new congressional requirement asks the Army to conduct a detailed review of museums and develop new recommendations.
The NDAA also calls for the Navy and Air Force to conduct similar reviews.
