House Armed Services Committee Democrats released their priorities for the upcoming year, calling for greater Congressional oversight for the war in Iran.
“We’re over a month into Trump’s disastrous war of choice, and we’ve yet to receive a clear strategy from the president despite the staggering costs,” Ranking Member Adam Smith (D-Wash.) said in a release outlining several policy priorities. “Congress must fulfill its duty to provide oversight to ensure a complete accounting of the risks to U.S. service members and civilian harm and the use and replenishment of materiel.”
The priorities also include scaling back domestic law enforcement missions for service members, improving quality of life and strengthening international alliances.
The positions could indicate friction ahead as Congress begins work on the National Defense Authorization Act. The historically bipartisan bill has in recent years become a more partisan exercise.
