Microreactor Program Selects Two Bases for Pilot
Buckley Space Force Base, Colorado and Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana have been selected as potential hosts of two microreactors. According to a Nuclear News report, the locations were chosen based on land availability as well as energy needs on base. The bases will be paired with a provider with a completion date set for 2030 at the latest.
Missouri Base Repairs Historic Infrastructure
Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri is repairing stonework on base that was originally laid by prisoners of war during World War II, according to an Army report. The work preserves the base’s important role in the war, which was when the base was originally created.
“Historic preservation work can be challenging,” base archaeologist and cultural resources manager Stephanie Nutt said. “Everyone involved in the project has embraced the challenge, and I think they are proud to be a part of preserving the POW stonework for another 80 years or more.”
