Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a memo to terminate almost all department collective bargaining agreements with unions, Defense One reported. The move is in accordance with President Trump’s executive order banning federal employee unions for many government agencies.
The cancellation cites national security as the motivation, hoping to limit the interests of the employees so they have no conflicts to distract from mission objectives.
The International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers and the Federal Education Association were spared from Hegseth’s memo as a court order protects them from losing their union contract.
