After detecting suspicious drone activity around Washington, D.C.’s Fort Lesley J. McNair, Army officials are considering deploying an anti-drone laser defense system to the base, The New York Times reported. War Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio currently live on the base.
The laser system has been opposed by the Federal Aviation Administration due to the risk to the heavily trafficked airspace. The two agencies are working to reach an agreement over the original issue raised on use of the technology along the border with Mexico, which will impact the decision to implement the system in Washington.
