The Trump administration has announced that 5,000 U.S. troops will be removed from Germany in response to the lack of support from NATO allies during the Iran war. Reuters reported that the withdrawal will take place over the next six to 12 months.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz had said that the US did not have a clear exit strategy and was “being humiliated by the Iranian leadership,” according to The Hill. Even with the move, Germany will still be home to 30,000 active duty U.S. servicemembers and personnel, more than any other country in Europe.
