Military Spouses Lead Conversations in D.C.

May 15, 2026

Members of ADC’s Military Spouse Leadership Initiative attended ADC50 Summit + Celebration in Washington, D.C., with some also attending the Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year Week to advocate for their communities and all military spouses.

“Representing my community during Military Spouse of the Year Week and advocating on Capitol Hill ahead of ADC50 is both an honor and a responsibility,” military spouse River Lopez said. “Military spouses are an essential part of the force behind the mission and often a bridge between communities. Our voices belong in the rooms where decisions are made as true drivers of change.”

ADC’s Military Spouse Leadership Initiative members had three days of sessions and meetings at ADC’s annual policy summit and were featured during “A Celebration of Defense Communities” at the Anthem. They also released a report and toolkit to help defense communities evaluate and enhance their inclusion of military spouses, as On Base previously reported.
