Bill Would Support Military Homeschoolers Moving to Other States

June 23, 2026

Sens. Ted Budd (R-N.C.), Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Ashley Moody (R-Fla.) introduced a new bill to help military families homeschooling their children during PCS moves, Cruz announced in a press release. The Continuity of Military Parents’ Academic Schooling and State Standards (COMPASS) Act would allow parents to continue following the homeschool laws of their legal home state instead of needing to adapt to the laws when they are moved.

“Military families make many sacrifices so their loved ones can serve,” Moody said. “The COMPASS Act ensures the children of our service members can continue their education without disruption while their parents serve our country.”

Companion legislation was introduced in the House by Rep. Pat Harrigan (R-N.C.).
