Gillibrand Pushes for ‘Cyber Force’ Under Army

June 2, 2026

Sen. Kristen Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) has proposed an amendment to the 2027 NDAA that would create a new branch of the military under the Army. The new branch would be called the “Cyber Force” and would fulfill a longstanding push from some lawmakers to create a branch dedicated to cyber threats.

“New and escalating cyber threats on the battlefield demand a change to our current approach,” Gillibrand told Defense One. “I believe, and many experts agree, that the creation of a dedicated Cyber Force will ensure the United States is ready to fight and win on the modern battlefield and protect our national security.”

Calls for a Cyber Force have been echoed in the House, including by Rep. Pat Fallon (R-Texas).
