Marine Corps Support Staff Continues Cuts Amid Iran War

June 9, 2026

The Marine Corps is continuing cuts to military family support staff while 4,500 Marines are deployed to Iran, Capital & Main reported. The civilian deployment readiness coordinators, who help connect families with resources during deployment, are continuing to lose team members.

The initial restructuring began in 2025, introducing a plan to reduce 151 support staff down to 19 by 2029. The responsibilities will be shifted to active-duty service members.

Marine Corps spouses are facing increased stress with limited access to resources, but Marine leadership have shared there is no plan to adjust the downsizing.

“This transition is not a reduction in support for our families,” Maj. Jacoby Getty said. “The [Personal and Family Readiness Program] remains a vital and critical resource, particularly given the war’s launch in February and the pre-war deployment of troops.”
