Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) introduced a new bill that would require weapons managed with AI to use a measure of human involvement, The Hill reported.
“There are good reasons to use AI technology to advance our national security, however, just as with any tool, we cannot depend on technology alone to guide to us, particularly when the risks of harm can be fatal,” Schiff said in a statement.
Similar bills have been introduced to limit AI in weapons systems, including Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand’s (D-N.Y.) bill moving to block AI in nuclear weapon systems.
The use of AI on installations and in defense communities will be a discussion topic in October at ADC’s Installation Innovation Forum in Tampa.
