The Congressional Budget Office projects that $7.4 billion in funding will be needed to protect installations and servicemembers from drone attacks in the coming years, Stars and Stripes reported. Systems would detect and destroy unmanned aircraft through radar, radio frequency and kinetic systems. The report also lists upkeep costs as $5 million a year per installation, with potential for that number to increase as drone technology continues to evolve. 

Drone defense continues to be a growing issue for installations and their communities, especially as global conflicts see their implementation increase.
