House Breaks for July Recess Without NDAA Progress

The House recessed early for a holiday break Tuesday evening after failing to advance the National Defense Authorization Act and other measures that were attached to it, as Politico reported. Several Republicans with frustrations over non-NDAA issues joined Democrats to defeat the rule that would have allowed for debate on the defense authorization act.  

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) initially said he still planned to bring the bill back to the floor this week but instead sent members home for the holiday recess.  

The House is scheduled to be in session July 13-23 before an August break.
