A $292 million housing deal with Placemakr will create housing for National Guardsmen deployed to Washington, D.C. A National Guard announcement highlighted the deal, saying 2,000 apartment-style lodging units will be available for those stationed in D.C., most of whom have been staying in hotels. 

“This contract delivers stable, secure housing for our soldiers and airmen while achieving significant cost savings for the government,” said Monica Williams, executive director of acquisitions and head of contracting activity for the National Guard Bureau. “We were able to move quickly to meet mission requirements and provide a long-term solution for deployed personnel.” 

The National Guard has been deployed from multiple states to D.C. since mobilized by the Trump administration in August 2025. Since then, the number deployed has reached nearly 5,000 and is costing above $95 million a month, according to NOTUS.
